Travel ideas: Winter

Verbier, Switzerland.

Skiing here is top-tier, but the real charm is how under-the-radar it feels compared to the usual hotspots.

48h itinerary

Day One: Fast Descents, Slow Dinners

Check-in: Chalet d’Adrien
Late morning. Wood, stone, and views for miles. Chalet d’Adrien does luxury without posturing—elegant, warm, and just the right amount of lived-in.

Midday: Ski + Slow Down
A few fast descents (I’ll wait for you at the bottom, eheh).

Late Lunch: La Table du 22
Quiet, polished, but not precious. Plates are seasonal, precise, and built to be enjoyed slowly.

Late Afternoon: Fondation Pierre Gianadda + Secret Cheese Cellar
We take a short drive to Martigny. First stop: the Fondation Pierre Gianadda —not the first place you’d expect to find a Van Gogh, a Picasso, or a Calder—but they’re there.
Then down into an old alpine cheese cellar, hidden beneath a stone farmhouse.

Evening: Dinner at La Table d’Adrien
Michelin-level without the white gloves. Alpine ingredients, French technique, and a view that makes small talk optional. A proper dinner, without trying too hard.

Day Two: Art, Ash, and the Luxury of Doing Nothing

Morning: Art Walk – Galerie du Foyer + AIFA Gallery
A slower start. We can explore Galerie du Foyer and AIFA Gallery—both offer a perfect slice of the art scene.

Midday: Spa or second ski
Your call. Either a few more runs, or a steam and a view. Both count as progress.

Lunch: Le Dahu
On the slopes but not rushed. Hearty, wood-fired, and far better than it needs to be. The kind of lunch that comes with cold cheeks and ends with red ones from too many glasses of red wine

Afternoon: Chalet reset
Back to the chalet. Maybe a nap, maybe just looking out the window. Some places make stillness feel earned.

Evening: Full-moon snowshoe + raclette in a mountain hut
We meet our guide just before nightfall. A quiet ascent through the forest, snow crunching underfoot, moonlight sharp on the trees. At the top: a wooden hut, a fire, melted cheese, and wine poured slowly. No phone signal.

Snow-covered mountain cabin and village with mountain ranges in the background under a partly cloudy sky.
Indoor pool with a large open window revealing mountain scenery and outdoor lounge chairs on a balcony.
Two skiers with helmets and winter gear stand on a snowy mountain at night, looking at the mountain range under a dark, starry sky.
